Some metal ions can be identified by the color of their flame test. Different elements placed into a flame will turn the flame a different color. What metals do colors indicate. For that lab we used a piece of wire and some elements and we used a flame we saw what color the element would turn in the flame.

Chemical Formula    Name of Metal    Color Produced

Kno3                       Potassium              Lavender

Cocl3                      Cobalt                 Sparking Orange

Mgcl                       Magnesium          Blueish Green

Ba(no3)                   Barium                Yellow Green

Mncl                        Manganese          Orange Yellow

Cucl2                       Copper                Teal Green

SR                            Strontium              Bright Red

  1. you have to wash the wire that the chemicals go on or the colors wont come out like they are suppose to.
  2. It wasn't that hard but it was a little bit difficult going around to each element putting them into the flames.
  3. You Would have to have more then one.
  4. The flames were produced by putting the elements into the flame.
  5.  Strontium, Cobalt, Manganese, Copper, Magnesium, Potassium
  6. the chemicals have to be heated because they aren't at their hot point which is what makes their colors.
